Physics, 6 - 12

A person interested in teaching physics at the high school or middle school level should major in physics with an emphasis in education. This degree and empahsis leads to state licensure to teach in Virginia upon completion of the degree. Visit the Physics website for the most up to date information about the physics major.

To Apply:

The student must apply to the Teacher Preparation Program during the second semester of the sophomore year or during the semester in which 60 credit hours will be completed. The student must submit an application form to his or her academic major advisor with the attachments listed below. All criteria for admissions must be met.

  • Attach a copy of your official transcript showing biology coursework GPA of between 2.5 and 2.75 and a cumulative GPA of 3.0.
  • Attach a photocopy of your PRAXIS I scores for Reading, Writing, and Math OR the equivalent SAT or ACT scores.
  • Attach a goal statement of no more than two pages, typed and double-spaced, that describes (1) your experience with adolescents, and (2) your career goals.
  • Attach three letters of recommendation. Beginning in the academic year 2009-2010, an official recommendation form will be required.
  • Submit a completed application to the Undergraduate Admissions Advisor. You will be contacted for an interview.
